This November investing in their financial education earns North Dakota students chances to win one of two $1,500 Smart with My Money Scholarships. Bank of North Dakota is providing one $1,500 scholarship to North Dakota high school juniors and seniors and one $1,500 scholarship to college students who are North Dakota residents or attending a North Dakota school. The scholarships will be awarded through a contribution to a College SAVE 529 Plan account that can be used toward qualified higher education expenses, including tuition.
Starting Nov. 1, 2026, students who register for a free account at SmartWithMyMoney.nd.gov and take one, two, or all three of the college planning courses selected for their age group earn entries in the contest drawing for a scholarship. The courses will help students learn how to prepare to finance their education wisely and understand how to manage or repay any money they may need to borrow.
For each eligible course completed, students can receive one entry into the scholarship drawing. This means the more courses they finish, the more chances they have to win. All entries must be submitted by Nov. 30, 2026. More information and how to get started can be found at SmartWithMyMoney.nd.gov/landing/bnd-scholarship.
“This scholarship contest supports the ‘Smart with My Money’ effort to make North Dakota the most financially literate state in the nation,” shared North Dakota State Treasurer Thomas Beadle. “It introduces the students to an incredible free resource that they can continue to use beyond entering the contest. The free site is available to all North Dakota residents and has information for people ages 15 and up. It covers both the educational and behavioral aspects of financial literacy. It really is a powerful tool.”
Bank of North Dakota President Don Morgan adds, “Continuing education beyond high school comes with important financial decisions. Bank of North Dakota has been supporting students throughout their educational journeys since 1967. This contest aligns with our goal of helping students not only pay for college but encourage them to make informed decisions and borrow responsibly.”
North Dakota high schools, colleges, businesses or other organizations interested in joining the effort may contact Bank of North Dakota for information.
