The Grain Storage & Facility Rebuilder Programs are designed to provide timely financial support to North Dakota’s agricultural producers who were impacted by the severe derecho and tornado events of June 2025. There are two programs available and producers may apply for either one or both programs. Click here to download the 2025 Grain Storage & Facility Rebuilder Programs Fact Sheet.

Program-Specific Questions
Is there a maximum loan amount for the Ag Facility Repair & Replacement Assistance program?
- The loan amount is only limited by project costs.
Questions that cover both the Temporary Grain Storage Support and Ag Facility Repair & Replacement programs
Is the lead lender required to track insurance ongoing?
- If the loan is unsecured, the bank will not be required to track insurance coverage. If the loan requires collateral, the bank will be expected to receive evidence of ongoing insurance.
What analysis or due diligence is the lead lender required to do?
- If the borrower is an existing customer of the lead lender prior to this application, they are current on their financial obligations, and the borrower has a pass risk rating, BND will not require any due diligence to be submitted
Overall, for loans under $500,000 or less than 25% of the borrower’s net worth, as well as all temporary grain storage requests, BND is reliant on the lead lender to determine if there is reasonable assurance the loan can be repaid. The extent of analysis and due diligence by the lead lender should be in accordance with its internal requirements for originating a loan.
Can the borrower replace my prior 50,000-bushel facility with a 100,000-bushel facility?
- No, this program is intended to restore your operation materially to the state it was prior to the events of June 2025.
Can I charge an interest rate above 2% on the lead lender’s share of the loan?
- BND will purchase 100% of the loan; the lead lender will have no exposure or share of it.
Is the $500 fee paid by the lead lender or the borrower?
- Neither. The fee is paid by BND to the lead lender for servicing the loan. There are no fees charged by BND to the borrower.
Can the lead lender charge an origination fee and can it be included in the loan amount?
- Hard costs associated with documentation preparation may be assessed; however, origination fees should not be charged. Borrower fees may be included in the loan amount as long as it does not exceed the maximum loan amount the borrower is eligible for.
Can father and son or each member of a farming entity get a loan?
- If they have separate income and losses and are equally responsible for the damaged facilities, they can each apply. There may not be more than one application per damaged facility.
Program information originally stated the gap amount over $500,000 may require collateral and now it states loan amounts over $500,000 may require collateral. Please explain.
- At the time of application, the gap after insurance proceeds may not be known. If the loan amount is expected to be under $500,000 or 25% of net worth within a short time after the loan is disbursed, collateral may not be required.
If a North Dakota producer has assets located outside of the state that were impacted, are they eligible?
- No, the borrower must be a ND resident who primarily farms or ranches in ND and the structures impacted must be located in ND.
Why is the loan term limited to two years?
- This is intended to fill a short-term need at a below market interest rate; BND will continue to evaluate the need for a long-term solution.
Can I align the maturity date of this loan with maturity dates of other loans my borrower has?
- Yes, the maturity date can be less than two years.
Can a borrower who rents out grain bins to area farmers qualify for the Ag Facility Repair & Replacement?
- Yes, if their structures were damaged in the June storm and they intend to repair or replace them, they are eligible.
