Get it done before you graduate so colleges can send you offers of financial aid that state how much you can receive in grants or college-sponsored scholarships, and how much you need to contribute on your own through student loans or savings.
Some financial aid is first-come, first-served; finishing early is your advantage. Every 2- and 4- year school in North Dakota requires the FAFSA to qualify for federal and state financial aid and some scholarship opportunities.

Steps to complete the FAFSA
Step 1.
Create a Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID)
Whether you’re a student or parent, you’ll need to create your own account to apply for, receive and manage your federal student aid.
Step 2.
Gather the appropriate personal documents
You will need the student’s Social Security Number and date of birth, as well as income and asset information (if required).
Step 3.
Complete the FAFSA before you graduate
The process has been simplified. Students filling out the FAFSA for the first time may only need 30-60 minutes to complete it.
