North Dakota Loan Forgiveness Programs
The North Dakota University System administers two loan forgiveness programs for certain individuals employed in North Dakota:
- Teacher Shortage Loan Forgiveness Program: Teachers must have graduated from an accredited teacher preparation program and have taught a full year under a signed contract at grade levels, content areas, and geographical locations identified as having a teacher shortage or critical need by the ND Superintendent of Public Instruction. Visit the North Dakota University System for more information.
- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Occupations Student Loan Program: The STEM Occupations Student Loan Program is for graduates who work in STEM-related occupations and meet the defined qualifications. This program provides up to $1,500 per year in student loan forgiveness (maximum $6,000) and cannot be used if receiving loan forgiveness under any other provision during the same application year. Visit the North Dakota University System for more information.
In certain situations, you may be eligible for other types of loan forgiveness, cancellation or discharge.
