Difficulty making your DEAL Student Loan payment

If you are enrolled at least half time, you may be eligible for an in-school deferment. Complete and submit the In-School Deferment Request to BND.

If you are enrolled less than half-time, you must begin repaying your student loans as soon as your grace period is complete. The grace period for a student loan is typically six months. That means you enter repayment six months after you cease to be enrolled at least half-time. You only receive one grace period.

If you have been accepted or recommended into an internship/residency program or a graduate fellowship program, you may be eligible for deferment. Complete and submit the Internship/Residency and Graduate Fellowship Deferment form to BND.

If you are experiencing financial hardship, temporary options may be available to help you.

If you are unable to make your regular monthly payment, you may contact us to request your monthly payment be temporarily reduced for up to six months. Payments go toward the accrued interest with a lesser amount going toward the principal balance. This may cause you to pay more over the life of the loan.

If you meet the qualifications listed on the Military Service Deferment Request, you may postpone payments on your student loans. Please provide a copy of your orders to BND. If a copy of your orders cannot be provided, you or your representative and commanding officer must sign and complete Military Service Deferment Request and return it to BND.
